| Mission
To champion service-learning opportunities for every student, every
year throughout the curriculum and instruction of the Saint Paul Public
Schools.
Roles
The Saint Paul Service-Learning Council will act as:
- A facilitator of connections between projects, funding sources, and the community.
- A sounding board for ideas that promote service-learning as a teaching methodology throughout the Saint Paul Public Schools.
- A conduit for bringing the opinions and ideas of teachers, students, and parents & community together.
- An advocate for the benefits of service-learning to youth and the community at large.
- A promoter of training & other professional development opportunities.
- An advisor to those seeking to bring high quality service-learning opportunities to SPPS.
- A sponsor of sound assessment of the impact and implications of service-learning on the students in SPPS.
The Council Shall:
- Set annual Goals & Objectives
- Have monthly meetings
- Have membership that is diverse in terms of age, role (i.e.,
teacher, student, administrator, parent, community member,) geography,
ethnicity and gender
- Have 18-month terms, staggered to ease transitions
- Be active with real work, real responsibility, real value added, and real fun
- Form subcommittees to accomplish the specific goals of the council.
The Saint Paul Service-Learning Council provides oversight
and guidance on service-learning program efforts. The council meets on
the second Tuesday of each month from 3:30 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. at 360
Colborne.
